THE JOURNEY TO CATALONIA
"catalan students AND THEIR FAMILIES WERE WATING WITH A GOOD LUNCH'
WRITTEn BY: HELENA, XAVIER, LUCA AND JUDIT
The schools of Germany (MS Kürnachtal) and Catalonia (Ins Josep Vallverdú) did this student exchange because of their international cooperation. The students should work together online and in reality. So we have to get known each other during the exchange visits and additionally they improve their English.
On Sunday (17.02.19) our German team started with the flight to Barcelona. We met in Würzburg at 05.45 a.m. Some of us had to get up very early. We drove 1 ½ hours by train to Frankfurt airport. There we had to wait a long time (3 hours), during this time we spend our time by looking around the shops, playing some games, watching films, a soccer match or eating something.
The plane to Barcelona left at 11.05 a.m. and some of us were very excited and for Luca it was his first flight. So he looked out of the window the whole time and took some great pictures. We arrived in Barcelona at 01.05 p.m. Some Catalan students (Xavier, Pau Santandreu and Pau Mateu) waited at Barcelona airport and they picked us up. We all went to Juneda by car and it lasts 1 ½ hours. All were very tired, exhausted and hungry because of the long trip. Finally we arrived and Catalan students and their families were waiting with a good lunch. All in all it was a very nice but stressful day.
First of all, the German students arrived at Juneda, and then they met the Catalan students. After that, some of them played games such as paddle or football, and then, when lunch was prepared, all of the students went to eat together. The main course of the day was Calçots, and then some of them ate the second course.
The Calçots are a very typical food at Catalonia, the Catalans pick this vegetable, and they grill it in a hot fire, then they wrap the vegetables and put it in a newspaper to preserve the temperature, after that, they eat it with a very famous sauce, called Romesco.
Romesco is a very popular sauce here, and its ingredients are:
1 ñora, 4 ripe tomatoes, 1 head of garlic, 1 glass of olive oil, 150 grams of almonds, and finally 1 slice of hard bread (or fried bread). After that, one of the most popular second courses is roast beef and salad. For desert, some of the students had a bite of a very popular cake at Catalonia called Gipsy arm, a cylindrical cake stuffed with cream.
After that, the Catalan and German students went to the football field at the tennis facilities and they played football together. After that, they went to the Juneda municipal field, and they watched a football match of the municipal team, Juneda.
Then, after watching the match they went to the town’s pub. The fathers and students had a drink and some of them played table football and darts, finally they went home and had dinner.

On Tuesday morning we went to the high school and at 8:30 we took the bus to Barcelona.
We arrived there more or less at 10:00 and we started our visit at 10:30. We started with a short introduction in a room near the cathedral, where the Sagrada Família staff gave us a headset and a radio to hear the tour guide every moment. They also left us some tablets to do some activities while we were visiting the cathedral.
We started visiting the frontal facade with some statues. They showed some important moments of Jesus life.
And then we entered into the cathedral to see the interiors. There were the pillars that represent the trunks of a forest. There also were a lot of stained glass windows with different messages in it .
Then we went outdoors of the cathedral to see more religious sculptures.
Finally we visited the underground museum and when we had finished visiting the museum we took the bus again.
The Sagrada Família is an still unfinished Roman Catholic church in Barcelona designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí.
The cathedral is the biggest building of Antoni Gaudí. It is build since 1882 and will hopefully be ready in 2026. That will be the centenary of the artists death.
The area from the cathedral is 17.822 square kilometre big. The building is very modern for the 18th century. About 1880 the first church service could be held there. The cathedral will have 18 towers and 5 ships when it will be finished.
Bit by bit Gaudi stopped working on other buildings and just worked on the church. He died in 1926 after a tram accident.
In the Spanish civil war a part of the cathedral was destroyed by protestants so they had to build it up again in 1950. They also burned the building plans and the plaster statues.
At this moment just eight from 18 towers are finished. The building process is actually financed by donations and the entrance fees. Yearly they have about 22 million Euro to work with. The money that they don’t use will be donated. The Sagrada di Familia is about 170 m high and 90 m wide. One entrance cost 30€.

On the 19th of February 2019, Tuesday, we went to Barcelona and we went to the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Barcelona.
Then we walked around the street "Les Rambles", and we saw the place where one year ago an attack took place. We also visited the Barcelona City Council.
Then we went to an enormous famous market in Barcelona. There were lots of juices on the tables, fruit shops, lot of fish, some places to have food like restaurants, sweet shops and a Serrano ham shop. This shop was very expensive!
Then we saw the sea, with some ducks and lots of seagulls. There we had to pass a bridge to enter the restaurant. We went to have lunch in a FrescCo, a restaurant in Maremagnum. It was a buffet restaurant and there was lots of food and everything was delicious.
After that, we had some freetime to buy some clothes or some souvenirs. In Maremagnum there were lots of famous shops like H&M, Stradivarius, Victoria secret or Starbuck coffee, which coffee is fantastic.
Then we visited the Montjuïc mountain and we saw the view of Barcelona. We also saw the "Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya". We entered the olympic stadium where one of the Olympic Games took place. In Montjuïc there were some shops and we could buy some magnets and key-rings.
All the students of the students exchange went to one of the most popular city of Catalonia: Tarragona. We had problems to arrive in Tarragona, because of a strike, but finally we arrived. Tarragona was a Roman city and today the roman monuments are still preserved.
We took the bus at 9 a.m in Les Borges Blanques and we arrived in Tarragona at 10.30 a.m. When we arrived in Tarragona we walked for Les Rambles and the teachers gave us free time to have breakfast. First we saw the Tarragona Amphitheatre. There we took some photos of all parts of it.
Then we did a tourist route to see more monuments like: The Roman Circus from outside, the square of the city (there is the Town Hall), the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, another square like Plaça dels Sedassos.
We had a guide, his name is Francesc Solans (the best tourist-guide) and he explained the history of Tarragona and a little information about each monument.
After we had visited the Roman monuments we went to the beach and there we had dinner with a great view. Then, we had a walk at the beach and some people put their feet into the sea.
Next, we walked to a shopping center and we finished our day in Tarragona going shopping in the most popular shops.
At 6.00 p.m we took the bus to Juneda and at 8.00 p.m we arrived there.

As we walked down to the beach we took great pictures.
Our task was to interview tourists and ask them questions about Tarragona.
Then we walked to the shopping center together and met with the teachers there. We were allowed to go shopping until we met again and walked to the bus stop. Then we drove back and went to the families.

On Friday, the Catalan students picked a train from Juneda and les Borges Blanques to go to Barcelona. The travel with the train took about two hours. When we arrived in Barcelona, we picked another train to go to the airport.
Then we have been waiting for one hour until the plane arrived at the airport, then we entered i the plane and 30 minutes later we left Barcelona.
The trip by plane lasted two hour and when we arrived in Nuremberg, the former principal of the high school and a German teacher in charge of the exchange received us at the main door of the airport.
We entered into two vans of the community and we went to the high school where the parents of the germans partners prepared us a typical coffee welcome.
coline, larissa and núria
In my opinion the first day was very exciting because the Catalan students met the German families. This meeting was very interesting and all the families wanted to know the Catalan students. It was for that reason that they prepared some cakes for the welcome. I think it was a very good idea and all the Catalan students were smiling.
The cakes were made by the family and they were delicious. The German teachers offered some drinks like coffee, coca colas and lots of soft drinks. Everything was impressive
IT WAS A SWEET WELCOME WITH HUGE CAKES
First of all, we arrived at Estenfeld school at 4.00 p.m.. Then, we waited a few minutes and the German students arrived with her families and with a lot of cakes. All families were very kind with us!
All the cakes and cookies and this things were on a very big table and all of them were different. I think there were like twelve cakes made with love by the families. The cakes had a different taste. They were delicious! We ate all the cakes and, after that, the German students of the exchange, made a guided visit to us in the German school called Mittelschule Kürnachtal Estenfeld. The German students showed to us all the classrooms and the gym, the computer room, the elementary school. They also showed us the kitchen that they have, because they sometimes have lunch at school. In my opinion this German school is very big and interesting. The German school has a different belt as ours. Their belt only rang for 2 seconds , a short time. In the other hand, ours is very long time.

Guided tour Würzburg
In 23rd, March we went to Würzburg to visit a lot of famous and awesome things. A guide explained all about this sites.
First we joined all the students and the teachers at the Residenz of Würzburg. There we met with the guide too. Then we started the guided tour around Würzburg.
After that, we walked to the cathedral St. Kilian. The cathedral St. Kilian was build from 1040 onwards Bishop Bruno of Würzburg. It likely was the third church on this place. The previous two, built in 787 and 855, were respectively destroyed and severely damaged by fire.
The second we visited was the Neumünster church. The Neümunster church dates back to 1065. Adalbero of Würzburg built a church with a nave and aisles and two choirs in Romanesque style.
Then, we went to the town hall where we saw a scale model from Würzburg in II World War. It was amazing!
Finally, we went to the bridge and there were a lot of people. Most of them drank franconian wine!
This wine is one of the best in the world.
At 12.00 we had free time to going shopping or doing what we want.
At 1 p.m. we met all the students and the teachers in front of the Residenz. Then, we entered inside and we waited for our guide. Before starting the tour we went to the cloakroom to deposit our jackets. After 15 minutes we started the tour at the entrance, then we followed the guide upstairs. She gave us some information about the man who painted the pictures of the ceiling and their meaning . Then we looked inside the rooms where the rich people lived. After the tour guide had finished we went to the shop and we bought some souvenirs.
Afterwards, the guide gave us some free time to have a look to the other rooms of the Residenz, like the mirror room and the wood room.
We finished the tour with a walk through the garden. There we took some photos and we enjoyed the great views.

What did we see ?
On Saturday we did a guided tour in Würzburg. The students were brought to the Residenz in Würzburg by their host families. When the guided tour was going to start we all met at the Residenz place. We visited a famous fountain in front of the Residenz and some of the famous churches in Würzburg.
Also we visited the home of the bishop and the tour guide gave us some information about the building. After that we went to see a little model of the town, when the world war was at the end. Finally we went to the garden of the Residenz and there we took some beautiful photos.
After this we had free time and there we bought some souvenirs for the families and after this we had lunch in a little restaurant near the Residenz.
On Saturday we had a city tour in Würzburg. After that we went to a restaurant, named Standard. It was located in "Oberthürstraße". This location is a restaurant during the day, and in the evening it is a bar where it is played a lot of music. Newcomers in the local music scene and also advanced are performing their music in the cellar bar. In the restaurant we had a late lunch at 3 p.m. We sat in a very tiny room with about 5 bigger tables. In advance we have ordered food for all members of the exchange. Everyone was allowed to order a complimentary drink for the chosen meal. Most of us had cola, but also some sprite or juice was ordered. For lunch we got "Schnitzel" with chips, cheeseburger, hot bacon cheese burger, spaghetti bolognese, south German pasta dish with pepper sauce, and gnocchi with sheep's milk cheese. Most of us had a hot bacon cheese burger. This burger was really hot but also very tasty. After an hour we had finished the meal and then we went shopping again to the city.

On Tuesday, the Catalan and the German students went to the school. After that, we left it by bus at 8.15 a.m. and we arrived in Nürnberg at 10.00 o´clock.
First of all, a man made a guided visit to us outside. I was called Reichsparteitagsgelände. The Nazi party had built there the big street, the Congress hall and more. Everything he taught was very interesting and impressive and everybody was surprised of what had happened there.
After that, the man gave to us some phones to made an audioguide visit inside the huge museum. It took more than one hour to visit all the museum, because it was enormous.
All the students loved this guided tour.
In my opinion this tour in Nürnberg has been very interactive because the guide was asking some questions to us and gave us a lot of impact. After the tour we had a lot of information about the Nazis' history, the World War II, and more, more things.
In my point of view, Nürnberg was a very interesting place for all the German and Catalan students, and we learned lots of things of the Wars and of the Nazis and also all the problems that they had at this time.
After that, we went to the primary school

it was a very impressive tour
On Tuesday we were in Nuremberg, where we met our tourist guide after we got off the bus. We had a German and an English guide. In the English
group were the students who participated in the exchange and in the German the remaining students of the 8M. First, the guide showed us the congress hall from the outside. He told us that many rooms remain empty and are no longer used. Then we went to the courtyard and there he explained how incomplete the building is. He explained what the building should look like and illustrated it with a picture. The building should have a roof, with a huge glass part in the middle, where Hitler stood during his speeches. Then we went to the big street. This was 2 km long and should lead to the basilica. After the war, this was used by the Americans as a runway. Then we walked a quarter of an hour to a large square where we went to a tribune. When we took some pictures, we were told that there was once a hacking cross on the building behind the bleachers, but this was blown away by the Americans after the end of the war. On the way back we walked around a lake called Dutzendteich.
"That must never happen again"
What are we doing there?
On Tuesday the 26.03.2019 we went with all the students and teachers to Nürnberg and visited the Reichspateitagsgelände.
We arrived at 10.00 o´clock and there we split up in to two groups, one group do the German guided tour and one the English guided tour .around the Reichspateitagsgelände.
When we were back at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds we went inside, where the tour ended.
Then we got some audioguides in German or Catalan language and we could move independently through the exhibition. There were a lot of rooms with various information from the beginning to the ending of Hitler's regime. Also there were some interactive informations boards, where you could schoose, which information would be interesting. In some rooms were shown short movies which dealt with the ruling life of Hitler.

All the students of the STUDENT'S EXCHANGE went to one of the well known city of Bavaria Nuremberg. We went there by a rented bus. In the morning we visited the Dokumentationszentrum. After a short lunch break where we tasted the local sausages, we had a guided tour to get known the highlights of Nuremberg. First, we visited the marketplace. At Christmas, the overall most famous Christkindlesmarkt takes place here. But on that day only a few stalls were set up, where you could buy souvenirs or regional specialties. In the market square is also the "beautiful fountain". This looks like a spire and is 19m high. But he is known for something else. One says, that: He is rewarded with three blessings that turn the golden ring and when he turns three times he is rewarded with a rich blessing. Then we went past Albrecht Dürer's birthplace to Kaiserburg. After we had a short spectacular view from there, we finally got some freetime. Now we could go and enjoy our freetime. Some of us had a late lunch at Mac and others went shopping. There were a lot of nice shops and we could succeed in buying some new things.

In free time, the students separated in mixed groups (some Catalan students and some German students).
The groups went to the shops, a café. or something else. Some Catalans students used the time to buy some souvenirs for their family, for themselves or for a friend.
In free time, our group did an Interview with a German tourist. He isfrom Berlin and his name is Michael.

'THE CATALANS USED THIS TIME TO BUY SOUVENIRS'
Judit , Xavier , Helena and luca
" YOU HAVE LUCK FOR YOUR WHOLE LIFE"
After lunch, we started our small guided tour and we went to the castle of Nürnberg called „Imperial castle“. This building was built in the 14th century from the Bavarian king Charles IV. We didn’t go inside the castle as it was closed. After this experience we walked over the old hangman bridge.
Then we walked through an old street and we arrived at „Schöner Brunnen“ . This is a fountain with many golden ornaments on each side. In Germany we say when you find the golden ring you must turn it three times and than you have luck for your whole life. All students tried this.
And then the teachers gave us some free time. Some Catalans went to a souvenir shop and bought some presents for their parents.

the best new experience we have ever had
We want to see all the students again. We want to have another sweet and great time!
This experience was so exciting and enjoyable for us. At the beginning all the students were so nervous because we didn’t know what would it be like. We didn’t know how our partner would be and this was the reason why we were nervous.
WE WANT TO REPEAT THIS EXPERIENCE!
Coline: In my opinion this exchange was very good and interesting. I enjoyed all the activities we did, because they were funny and I improved my English. I think the work at school was very hard but in the end it was ok.
Larissa: This experience was good. Everything was very interesting and impressive. We learned a lot of English and lots of things of technology. We also visited many interesting places.
Núria: In my opinion, this exchange was very interesting and entertaining. We improved our English talking all together and we also learned and practiced lots of things of technology. The places we visited were very beautiful and typical .
In our group all girls we think that this second meeting in the exchange was different to the first. We did a lot of interesting and entertaining activities. We also learned and practiced English and technology. These seven days passed very fast because we spent a great time with all together.
