IN THIS ISSUE...
As we close our fiscal year 2019, we wish to extend a large "Thank you" to all of our out-going board members and their contributions. Volunteers in every aspect are what make our Chapter what it is - and help to lead it to what it will become; so we say thank you to those individuals below and their contributions in helping us to do so during their tenures. Good luck, and we'll see you at the monthly meetings!

June….wow, where did this year go! This will be my last President’s message you will be receiving from me.
This past year has been filled with some challenges, but, I believe, some very good events and programs for our Membership. Our membership is the largest we have had in a long….long…time. Kudos to the Membership Committee and their embracing of the Chapter Challenge. We now have, last I checked, one hundred members in our Grand Rapids Chapter!
A few of us attended both Construct in Long Beach, California and the Region Conference in Detroit. We’ve had some very interesting speakers at our monthly membership meetings and I even had the pleasure of playing Alex Trebec during CSI Jeopardy!!! I now challenge our current and new members to get involved in the Chapter. Be it a potential Board Member, a member of the one of the many Committees we have: Membership, Golf Outing and Scholarship, Communications, Expo and Programs, just to name a few. We are always looking for new and fresh ideas in all of the above mentioned committees. If you feel moved to run for one of the Director or Board positions that will come available next year, please let me know, as I will now hold the title of Immediate Past-President which includes the role of Nominations Chair.
I would also like to recognize our newest Directors and Board Members to the Chapter:
Ben Buter: Director
Jana Cooper: Director
Casey Gross: Secretary
WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME.
Many of you have inquired about the Scholarship Golf Outing. We ran into a few “technical difficulties” and have decided, for this year at least, to move it to Wednesday, September 18! I will be putting information together yet this month, so plan on hearing more from me, as I will be taking over the organization for this event. If there are any members that would like to assist me, please feel free to contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org). I plan to implement something new this year, but have to work out the logistics before I announce what that will be.
We are pleased to announce that The Scholarship Selection Committee has decided to provide funds to (2) applicants for this year. These recipients will be notified very soon and will be formally announced at the Golf Outing in September. These recipients will be invited to the golf outing, so if you see them, please give them a warm welcome and congratulations!
To take the place of the June Golf Outing, we have planned on a very informative program/tour for this month. Look for that information in this newsletter.
Lastly, I would like to personally thank my Board of Directors, and as I would call them, Advisors, for the past year. This truly was a learning experience for me, and really don’t know what I would have done without them:
President Elect: Justin DeMarco
Immediate Past President: Charlie Appleby
Secretary: Stan Elenbaas Treasurer: Gary Beimers
Director: Brian Welsh Director: Elise Love
Director: Kevin Bush Director: Brandon Hartwick
Advisors: Gregg Jones and Ed Avink
I now pass the torch and welcome Mr. Justin DeMarco, CSI, CDT to the incoming position of Chapter President. I know he as many new ideas and things he would like to do in the coming year. I hope to assist him, as much as possible, to continue our drive for new members, getting our current and new members involved in the Chapter, to introduce new and more exciting programs and continue to update our presence on our Social Media Platforms.

a special message
Thanks to everyone for their contribution to this years West Michigan Design and Construction Expo. We appreciate all the vendors support, and all the attendees for visiting and supporting this event.
We fell short of our goals this year for booth sales as well as our visitor attendance. We know where we fell short and we know we can do better in the future. Please take a moment and respond to our Expo Survey being sent to visitors (attendees) and vendors (exhibitors).
We know that the planning committee needs to be on this event year round in order to be successful. Additionally, we need to recruit more committee members to insure that we check all the boxes for a tremendous event. Several key endorsements I received and I agree with these sentiments:
“ I had excellent quality visitors at my booth, notably key specifiers and influencers from the local Markets, more so quality verses quantity.”
An architect stated that “the presenters and topics were very high quality and that these subject matter experts were Regional or National level Speakers.”
Thank you again for your support of this important event we appreciate your support and any and all feedback.
Charlie Appleby, Expo Chair
Sponsorship is a great way to contribute to our Chapter, and a great way to share your company with a wide range of people - members and others!
If you are interested, please contact Ed Avink (email@example.com), our Sponsorship Chair, or Jeff Murphy (firstname.lastname@example.org), the Chapter President.
Topic of this installment is an item I recently ran across while researching a project. It’s a swimsuit water extractor, specifically SUITMATEÒ from Extractor Corporation. Some of you may be more familiar with this gem, than this ol’ number pick’r was. If you need to, you can check it out at www.suitemate.com.
What is it? It’s a gizmo with an appearance not unlike a small top-load washing machine. Insert a swimsuit, minus the wearer, and seconds later remove a swimsuit minus 95% of its former water content. Operates with a high-speed spin process, no heat, and eliminates things like odors and mildew as well as water. Applications mainly are swimming pool and spa facilities.
Pretty safe bet its best classified as a piece of equipment, or “product”. However, where might we have to deal with it within “work result” sections if one were being included in the fittings for a project.
So . . . . . . . 11 23 26 or somewhere under 11 66 00. Hummmmmmm. Either way, in the time it took you to read this you could have had your swimsuit de-watered.
02 70 00 – Water Remediation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
sounds like what it does, but I don’t think so.
10 28 23 – Laundry Accessories . . . . .
Laundry . . . maybe, accessory . . . nope
33 47 19 .19 – Water Retainage Reservoirs . . . . . . . . . .
even further afield.
42 32 00 – Material Dryers . . . . . . .
suits are made of material. wrong kind though.
22 42 00 – Commercial Plumbing Fixtures . . . . . . . . . . .
nope, not here.
13 11 49 – Swimming Pool Cleaning Equipment . . . . . . . . .
suit was IN the pool, this is for after
11 31 23 – Residential Laundry Appliances . . . . . . . . .
appliance . . . OK, residential, maybe
11 23 00 – Commercial Laundry and Dry Cleaning Equipment . . .
seems close, isn’t usually associated with swimming pools, etc, rather Laundries & Dry Cleaning facilities.
11 23 16 – Drying and Conditioning Equipment . . .
not quite right
11 23 26 – Commercial Washers and Extractors . . . .
pretty close description
11 67 00 – Recreational Equipment . . . . . . . . . . .
swimming is recreational, so is spa sitting
11 66 00 – Athletic Equipment . . . .

mASTERfORMAT number pickin'
The following article is the seventh of several revisiting a series originally published between 2005-2008, called “Number Pick’n”. They take some obscure or interesting item and present a sometimes semi-serious, sometimes just plain fun pondering of where to specify it. Enjoy!
