A Vision for the Future
Financial constraints make it nearly impossible for Ixil and Quiche families to pay tuition for their children to attend secondary school. Nicolás Fund for Education scholarships make secondary school possible for these boys and girls. The school is currently located in a temporary rented facility with limited capacity. The proposed new school, to be built on land purchased in October 2018, will provide long-term stability and allow the program to grow.
Christian education builds character in our students. Nicolás Christian School students practice daily the core values of Faith, Excellence, Integrity and Generosity. Daily devotionals and Christian discipleship build solid foundations for future leaders in Guatemala. The students strive for excellence in academics in addition to developing leadership skills and self-confidence. They also learn a trade in our carpentry program. Many graduates are attending college to become teachers, nurses, agronomists, engineers, and translators. They are the first generation in their families to achieve a higher education.

BUILDING UP &
Nicolás Fund for Education is creating a well-equipped secondary school to meet the needs of up to 300 indigenous Mayan students from villages near Cotzal in the western mountains of Guatemala. As good stewards, this campus will have multi-use rooms which will allow for instruction of the required core classes as well as technology, art, music, and multimedia. Nicolás Christian School is certified by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education and has applied for an additional certification to offer vocational training.

Building Goodness Foundation (BGF) is partnering with NFE. BGF is a non-profit organization that connects skilled volunteers from the design and construction industry with nonprofit organizations to improve education and economic outcomes in impoverished communities.
The new Nicolás Christian School campus will not only benefit the students attending on a daily basis but will also benefit the entire Cotzal region by serving as the administrative headquarters for distance learning, tutoring, the Ten Talents University Scholarship, and literacy programs. The campus will be available to the community for parent meetings, special events, Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and professional education for indigenous teachers throughout the Ixil region. Cotzal is a growing community and we want our new school to serve Christ in this region!
