A weekly guide to Illuminate your Life
A Note from Katie
Hi everyone, I hope that you are having a wonderful week. Here in the US, we are celebrating Thanksgiving. I would be remiss if I didn't express my love and gratitude for you, dear reader. The support that you have shown to Luminous and me this year has been touching, to say the least. Thank you for being you.
I am calling this week's magazine the "Thankful" edition. I know that I have plenty to be grateful for this year. I want to shift my focus to an attitude of gratitude on a more permanent basis.
Please join me on November 26th at 11:00 AM Pacific for the "Katie Weaver Show" on 12Radio. I will be live streaming in the 12Radio Chat Room on Facebook. Learn more about me at www.katie-weaver.com.
My Musings, Mostly for Me
Sometimes for you
I, like most of you, was raised in a religious home. We went to church most Sundays, followed by Sunday dinner and some kind of family time. In the summer we might go fishing or for a drive into the mountains. We may have gone on a bike ride or even to the park to play ball. Sundays were a day of fun. Except for church that it is; our church was a three-hour-long event that was exhausting for kids and adults alike. Not going to church as an adult is a huge relief to me. No obligation to fix up, force my kids to go and be quiet. None of it. No time-consuming callings to teach classes or help out in the nursery. No guilt over not going. I love it. The only thing that I miss about church was the occasional upliftment that my spirit found there. Talks about being kind and serving others spoke to me.
Recently I read something about a homeschooling theory called Unschooling. Basically, giving your kids the option to focus on things that they are the most interested in. That led my thoughts to Unchurching. What if we could dip our toe into the church pond without having to swim? What if we could meet briefly, share some optimism and joy and go our merry ways? Thanks to the internet, WE CAN!
I am launching a brand new view video-cast on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM PST. I will be live streaming from Katie Weaver on Facebook and as well as from Domestic Mystic on Instagram and Youtube. I am calling it, “Church for the Rest of Us” #unchurch. I intend on bringing uplifting messages, laugher, and hope for 20 minutes or so each week. I would love for you to join me!
Please check out the video to watch the maiden launch of #unchurch!

This time of year many of us deeply contemplate the concept of gratitude. Gratitude is not a naturally inherent trait, but the potential to develop it is present within us. We have to take the idea of gratitude into our conscious thought via our hearts and develop its growth. We need to honor each feeling of gratitude and cultivate it by small increments.
Gratitude has shown overall improvements in health, happiness, feelings of well-being, increased optimism, and a greater sense of purpose in life.
Psychologically, people consciously and consistently experiencing gratitude in their lives are more alert, more energetic, more enthused, and more attentive. Their levels of irritability and hostility are decreased.
Physically, grateful people exercise more, experience better sleep, have fewer symptoms of pain and discomfort, adopt healthy behaviors, and seem to follow up on personal health issues. Gratefulness has also been found to lower blood pressure.
In the area of interpersonal relations, grateful people are more outgoing and helpful, develop a sense of altruism; and feel less lonely and isolated. They give credit to others when things go correctly and share or admit their responsibility when things go wrong. They except that certain situations in life are beyond their control.
Overall, grateful people experience more success in life, work harder toward goals, have an increased degree of satisfaction, are more forgiving, generous, charitable, and compassionate. They are more inclined to lead groups into action (less complacent) and to do more good deeds and volunteerism.
In many households celebrating Thanksgiving Day, there is a tradition that each person seated at the dinner table expresses a few things for which they feel particularly grateful.
The following song lyrics are another way to communicate gratefulness:
Thanksgiving Song- Lyrics by Mary Chapin Carpenter
Grateful for each hand we hold
Gathered round this table.
From far and near we travel home,
Blessed that we are able.
Grateful for this sheltered place
With light in every window,
Saying welcome, welcome, share this feast
Come in away from sorrow.
Father, mother, daughter, son,
Neighbor, friend and friendless;
All together everyone in the gift of loving-kindness.
Grateful for what’s understood,
And all that is forgiven;
We try so hard to be good,
To lead a life worth living.
Father, mother, daughter, son,
Neighbor, friend, and friendless;
All together everyone, let grateful days be endless.
Grateful for each hand we hold
Gathered round this table.
I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank all of you “seated” at the 12 Table. Everyone involved in every aspect of 12Listen, the Advisors and Callers; 12Radio, the Hosts, Producers, and it’s Chatters & Listeners; 12Academy, the Teachers, Guides, and Students; Mark Husson, Founder: and all of the behind the scenes support staff making All things 12 work.
To Mark and the writers of The Power Peak and to Katie Weaver and the other writers involved in Luminous- thank you for all your valuable words that move us forward.
We are a Family within an ever-growing Community.
Gratitude is both a gift for others and a precious gift for the givers.

BEING THANKFUL OR LIVING WITH AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
Living an attitude of gratitude is more than being thankful for what we each have. Authentic gratitude fuels and ignites compassion. Years ago I wrote this mantra and it lived on my desk for a very long time until it becomes ingrained into my subconscious mind: IF I CANNOT BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I PRESENTLY HAVE IN MY LIFE, HOW CAN I BE GRATEFUL FOR MORE? That mantra inspired a life long spiritual practice...writing a daily gratitude list before I ended each and every day.
Throughout my day I began observing what was going right instead of what was going wrong. Of course, I noticed things that came up that did not go according to my preset ideas of how I thought it was supposed to unfold, but I began focusing more on what was unfolding in the positive realms. I began to see what I call miracles unfolding before my pleasantly surprised eyes such as a butterfly landing on my hand or near me, finding a shiny penny, a stranger smiling at me, being able to do a yoga pose I could never do before, and much more!
Being thankful is an action while gratitude is a feeling. Gratitude comes from deep within and exudes outside of us, flowing to other beings. It is manifested devotion and unconditional love that really connects us to other beings.
I do not think sharing my gratitude is supposed to only be expressed on one special day, such as Thanksgiving. I would love to see our world open more fully to a world of kindness by living an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE. It is my experience that the more I live gratitude the more compassion grows, and the more contented I am in my life.
To help you expound on living an attitude of gratitude here are some simple steps you might consider taking:
-Appreciate everything. See all situations as opportunities, even your challenges.
-Practice slowing down and observing what the Universe presents to you. When we are rushing to try to get to the next thing or wanting things to hurry up and give us what we demand, we miss what is right in front of us.
-Keep a daily gratitude journal. Write 10-15 things daily that you are grateful for.
-Give back and pay it forward by volunteering in your community. Tell the next person you see how the color they are wearing looks so great on them. Thank the cashier for being of service to you. Practice random acts of kindness. Find volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood.
Know how grateful I am for you, my reader! You help me continue to want to be the best version of myself just by being present in my life and I want to do the same for YOU!

Anita and the Masters
Blessed Mother Mary: We know her as the Mother of the Messiah, Jesus, but she is also our Mother in every sense. Ever-nurturing and faithful, she adores being one of our closest allies, providing guidance, comfort, and maternal hugs. Mother Mary's pure and unconditional love supports us through all of life's moments, even if it's to cry in her arms and feel that love. Her purity, strength, and belief in the truth to reign supreme is powerful. In 2016, we will witness the power of that truth through revelations that occur this year. Her bond with us is sacred and she had made many apparitions over the years, most notably in Lourdes, Fatima, Ireland, and Yugoslavia. Talk to Mother Mary at any time. Her aura comes through as blue, pink or gold and rose quartz is a wonderful connection to her. She is our constant companion.

Well if we ever needed illusions and escapes it might be during the holidays (Not that I’m advocating escapist behaviors.) Neptune has been retrograde since June and with that inward gaze, we maybe have had some stark realizations and reality checks.
This week has a softness that we very much need. And then on Monday Jupiter changes signs and that’s big news! You may feel the shift, a pop of awareness as we move from optimism and philosophy to practicality and planning.
Whether you love the holidays or dread them, honor your needs this week and do something that feels good to you.
Nov 27 - Neptune direct - safe to dream again.
Nov 28 - Mercury trine Neptune - creativity and imagination
Nov 28 - Venus trine Uranus - fresh love energy - a spark
Nov 30 - Mercury sextile Saturn - good judgment and organization
Dec 2 - Jupiter enters Capricorn - Capricorn ideals are on full volume for 12 months
Dec 3- Mercury sextile Pluto - communication is persuasive and intense
Dec 3 - Venus sextile Mars - flirty playful sexy
ARIES - You have stepped badassily into a new reality for yourself, Aries. Congratulations. But you’re probably exhausted as well. Try to pay attention to the little things that show up to help you, whether they are people, parking spots, or pauses in the chaos. There may also be something nagging at you that you thought was resolved that appears to not be. *cough cough Mercury retrograde* Make sure you cross your T’s and dot your I’s legally and financially because it will save you stress down the road. No shortcuts. No cutting. No takesies.
TAURUS - I know you have 2 speeds but you need to find that middle one right now. Life is busy, but self care is the order of the month. REAL self care, not just indulging in the oreos and chai tea soy wax candles on sale. Sleep. Nutrition. Nurturing. During Mercury retrograde you need to observe your daily routine and see if it really feeds you, or drains you. Mercury in Scorpio is very likely to highlight some of your less healthy habits and tendencies. Rather than fight it, try to take it in and benefit from it. This month, make a concerted effort to spend quality time with those closest to you.
GEMINI - This month your mission, should you choose to accept it (I recommend saying yes), is to keep your reactions on the low side of the “losing my shit” scale. Stay out of the red zone. Pull back, think, consider, rethink what you want to say and say about half of that. With less adjectives. Because I know you love adjectives. Less is more this month. And if and when you are faced with a choice later this month, choose the path of least drama. If you have earth in your chart or your friends circle, lean into that energy. This is a great month for you to ground, tree-hug, hike, and breathe deeply. You will have many, many opportunities in the future to make that well crafted, sharp tongued point you are dying to make. Blink, swallow, breathe.
CANCER - Well there’s no getting around it, all this extra intense water energy will definitely turn your emotions up. You may find yourself getting slightly offended, or it may just be that other people’s integrity does not match up with yours and you find it distasteful. Take all that emotion and channel it into some work. I feel some kind of craft or art figuring heavily into your schedule this month. And there’s a very good liklihood that your income will benefit from what you use as self-therapy. Everyone wins! Say yes to new opportunities, and no to emotional manipulation this month.
LEO - You may be outwardly quiet, but your creative energy is probably high this month. What Scorpio is to water, you are to Fire, and the depths of this energy are not dampening your spirit one bit. While you may be contemplating some deep emotioans, it won’t stop you from shining, socially. When not the star of the evening, you may be treading some deep water. Perhaps some childhood pain you really thought you’d dealt with, or a relationship that you closed a door on manages to creak open. Whatever it is it will drag some deep emotions to the surface. Use one of your many creative outlets to vent this energy off, but don’t ignore it.
VIRGO - If you are looking for a deeper meaning or purpose in life, which you always are, it may show up this month in the form of a club or organization of some sort. Don’t do your typical thing and overthink it to death. Just go. You don’t have to commit yet. And let go of your fears about other people’s opinions. Do be sincere and authentic, however. Your warrior facade won’t get you where you need to be. In fact, that tough exterior will just be in your way this month. One or more relationships has the potential to be transformed soon, mostly by a change in how you see these people. That change can’t happen if you are armored to the gills. Stay open is your mantra this month.
LIBRA - You’ve been working a lot, and probably over giving as you tend to do. And October may have had you feeling a little bit defeated in the area of Career. But you should be feeling an overall uptick in your confidence, security and sense of self this month. Clarity about situations that have been bugging you will arrive later this month. You may be surprised about someone’s depth. There are a couple of harder conversations that may pop up this month, probably with family. You are more than capable of handling these as they arise. But remember, when faced with a choice, choose you. Every.time.
SCORPIO - Well it may be no surprise that with Mercury chest deep in your sign, communication will be highlighted for you. Understanding is yours for the taking. That may come in the form of understanding yourself. You are the master of hiding things, even from your own self. We all do this, it just happens to be one of your more natural gifts of self protection. However in this retrograde, it will be hard to keep some of your less proud moments in the dark where you’d like them. So you may as well get honest with yourself and own up to where you may have wronged people once close to you.
SAGITTARIUS - If you’ve been a little defensive and suspicious lately, you may want to take a deep breath. The people closest to you are also the people you feel safest to be pissy with, but it doesn’t go unnoticed and it does cause hurt feelings. You, the truth-at-any-cost sign, might not care too much about “hurt feelings” but they are real and they build up and eventually affect relationships of all kinds. In good news, travel is definitely up for you this month, even if its a short trip for some fun. You’ve been working ridiculously hard and you’ve more than earned a break.
CAPRICORN - Well...do you feel productive yet? Do you feel successful yet? Are we there yet?! Probably not. You will never be truly satisfied with anything less than world domination so you may as well chill out for a couple weeks I know you think this year hasn’t been very “productive”, but so many stepping stones have been laid down on your path. Those are not the same as “Welcome to the summit of HERE” moments that you love so much, but they are every bit as important. This month you really need to give youself a little credit for ...well a lot of things. Try to get out into nature a bit, slow down and breathe a little deeper and slower. 2020 is waiting for you to kick its ass so just take these last couple months to be with family and friends. (isn’t it so cute that I think you might take this advice?)
AQUARIUS - You feel angry. Bitter. Resentful. Always carrying everyone else’s water and never getting any help with your own buckets. But have you failed to notice when someone has offered to help you because it wasn’t up to your standards? Have you noticed that you’ve nailed your left hand to the cross? So how are you gonna get that right hand nailed up there? Well you could ask for help. OR you could give up the martyr crown all together. All Aquarians have several of these crowns, in various colors and styles. One for every occasion. Mercury retrograde might be a nice time to examine this fashion accessory and question how often you wear it. Side effects of going in the world without headdress: peace, tranquility, acceptance...
PISCES - You’re probably feel very sensitive, maybe even a little triggered. There’s a lot of water in the collective right now, and you have no where to hide, or so it seems. When feeling everything gets overwhelming, you should a) ground ground ground and b) consider the opposite of what you tend to do which is cocoon. There can be a strange solace in crowds, where you can just be in the ocean and not have to identify each drop. Your family is probably a strong source of support for you when you feel “touched out”. Lean into them, as well as the notion of play. You need more than the average fish, so schedule some into your every single day. Embodiment and sensory input will be really good for you too. Damn, I’m gonna be a fish this month: get a massage, eat good food, play with crayons...

The radiant poem project
The Radiant Poem Projec
This is a poem by W. S. Merwin called “Thanks.” It which expresses gratitude during all of life’s most troubled moments, and during the loveliest times, too. May it serve you.
As we move into the holiday season, remember to care for yourself in all of the chaos. And, if you usually spend the holiday alone, maybe reach out to a friend or co-worker and start a new tradition.
No matter what it’s like in your home during the holidays, I’m here for you. You can find me at 12Listen and 12Radio. You can also reach me through my website, JenniferDove.com.
As we enter Sagittarius season, never forget to reach for hope during hard times. Reach for the bigger view. One exercise I give my clients is to go to the highest vista they know about. SAFELY. The best thing is to go outside for a sunrise. And, to view it from the highest vista you know of. SAFELY from your car or from indoors, or outdoors if you know of a safe spot.
And, to look out and remember what they are part of. One of my favorite places is Flagstaff Mountain which overlooks the cities of Boulder and Denver, Colorado. From there, I feel part of something greater than whatever my current issues are. I feel safe. I feel nurtured.
See you next week for the next installment The Radiant Poem Project where we’ll continue the series on self-care. And, in the meantime, you can find me on 12Listen, 12Radio, and through my website, JenniferDove.com. I’m here to support you. It’s my joy and my pleasure. Talk to you soon!
~by W.S. Merwin
with the night falling we are saying thank you
we are stopping on the bridges to bow from the railings
we are running out of the glass rooms
with our mouths full of food to look at the sky
and say thank you
we are standing by the water thanking it
standing by the windows looking out
in our directions
back from a series of hospitals back from a mugging
after funerals we are saying thank you
after the news of the dead
whether or not we knew them we are saying thank you
over telephones we are saying thank you
in doorways and in the backs of cars and in elevators
remembering wars and the police at the door
and the beatings on stairs we are saying thank you
in the banks we are saying thank you
in the faces of the officials and the rich
and of all who will never change
we go on saying thank you thank you
with the animals dying around us
our lost feelings we are saying thank you
with the forests falling faster than the minutes
of our lives we are saying thank you
with the words going out like cells of a brain
with the cities growing over us
we are saying thank you faster and faster
with nobody listening we are saying thank you
we are saying thank you and waving
dark though it is
