A weekly guide to Illuminate your Life
A Note from Katie
Hi everyone, I hope that you have had a good weekend. We have been blizzarding for days and are quite buried with snow at this point. Everything outside is gorgeous, sparkly and new. I love the quiet that comes with a lot of snow. It is a peaceful, reflective kind of quiet that I am sure I need more of. Stay safe out there this week, wherever you are.
I am calling this week's magazine the "Happy Birthday" edition because here at Luminous, we are celebrating our 3rd birthday! I cannot thank all of our contributors over the years enough for their generous sharing of gifts and self.
Please join me on January 14th at 11:00 AM Pacific for the "Katie Weaver Show" on 12Radio. I will be live streaming in the 12Radio Chat Room on Facebook. Learn more about me at www.katie-weaver.com.
My Musings, Mostly for Me
Sometimes for you
It has been an interesting couple of weeks at my house. My little animal spirit guide in body, Skippy, has been struggling a lot. He is nearly 15 and has been having seizures for the last five years. At first, we opted not to treat them as they were infrequent. Over time, they became more frequent and sometimes turned into clusters that are terrifying and exhausting. Three years ago, we began medicating, as well as using CBD. That worked beautifully until two weeks ago when he had an entire day of clusters.
We gave him all of the meds the vet suggested, energy work, CBD, and all of the love a 5-pound doggie boy could ever hope for. After 12 grueling hours, the seizures stopped. A trip to the vet offered a clean bill of health. The doc believes that this is old guy stuff, and all we can do it treat the symptoms and him comfy. He also upped Skippy's meds and told us that there is another med that we can add if needed, but that I need to understand that we may be getting to the end of the line.
He did great for a week, acting mostly like his old self. On Saturday afternoon, I noticed that he was drooling a lot. Weird. Later in the evening, he declined his dinner. Really weird. Within an hour, he started having a new kind of seizure. They had always been gran mals in the past, but now it was just his face twitching and tremoring. Occasionally the tremors would stop, and he would pace. For 24 hours, this went on. He didn't sleep much. Neither did I. He didn't eat much, but he drank plenty of water. And he drooled nonstop. The kind of drooling that soaks through blankets and towels and pajamas.
On Sunday afternoon, I held Skippy close and talked to him. He was so pathetic, with his little face covered in drool, his milky eyes filled with misery. I knew that I needed to get my fear under control to best help him. This is the twilight of his life. We both know that. I am facing the question that I have helped so many clients with over the years. When do we pull the plug? How much is too much? I explained to him that I am ready to be brave and help him cross if he is prepared to, but that I would like to try the additional med first. He agreed to try, expressing that he is not quite ready to go yet.
He showed wisdom to me that I know in my heart to be true. We agreed, long before I was born that he would be here for me and be a part of my path. He has kept that promise four times already. He showed up as an old red hound dog named Trusty when I was a kid. He didn't stay long, but I loved him fiercely. Later, he came in a darling ferret named Francine. I adored her and babied her from 7th grade until my freshman year in college. Two years later, he came back again, as a sweet chihuahua named Littles. She was my sidekick while I had my babies. She cuddled, comforted, and loved me unconditionally. When she crossed unexpectedly, I was shattered. Scott knew that there was only one thing to do. Bring him back.
That's when Skippy came back for the fourth time. In the last 15 years, he has been my constant companion. He has seen me through an enormous amount of joy and grief. He has kept things light and happy when darkness threatened to kick in. He has licked my tears and made me laugh. I have spoiled him to the point that my kids are jealous of him.
Skippy expressed to me that he is excited to enter a new body, one that is free from the issues this one has developed. He reminded me of his promise that he will continue to be a part of my path as long as I am walking it. I am scared and sad.
So here we are, facing the end. Maybe not today or tomorrow, even this month. But it is looming. The new med is working great. He is eating like a champ, sleeping well, and pacing less. I don't know how much time we have. But I do know that we will not ever be apart, not really and that when he is ready to come back, I will know, and answer the call. My heart is broken, but I refuse to grieve prematurely. I am scared, but I won't give into my fear. Skippy has given me so much over the years. It is my turn to give to him.

Those of us that work on our spiritual growth need to keep ourselves in well-grounded balance. The simplest things can interfere and in this new year of great challenges and changes can throw us into a tailspin. Our usual practices of grounding that have worked in the past may probably need to change to maintain balance.
Monitoring and staying aware to recognize symptoms that may show we are ungrounded will be a 2020 must. Let’s review some of the symptoms:
Being clumsy or bumping into things.
Continual daydreaming that doesn’t lead to intuitive information.
Difficulty concentrating and staying focused.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling ‘spaced out”.
Falling asleep while meditating.
Feeing tires and drained, lacking energy, and feeling unwell.
Feeling nervous, irritable, or overstimulated.
Forgetting things that are important on your to-do list.
Frequently losing track of what you are saying.
Getting lost, even when familiar with the area or arriving at your destination without remembering how you got there.
Increased light and/or sound sensitivity.
Misplacing or losing things.
If you are experiencing any of the above examples this demands constant self-monitoring and re-grounding. Take the time out to think some more about grounding and make some adjustments in your usual grounding routine. Try different methods or combinations of some of the following to find workable grounding techniques:
The old standbys are systematic breathing and re-centering, walking on the earth, working with the earth (as in gardening), exercise and partaking in sports, visualizing landscapes and rooting yourself deep into the ground and carrying certain stones (lava and river stones, black tourmaline, black agate, or black opal) But have you realized that some of the following can also help you ground:
Burning white sage
Enjoying comfort foods (watch the weight gain)
Enjoy different scents
Increasing your water intake
Listen to music
Pet and hold your animal companions
Place your hands in water
Practice intensely listening to your surroundings
Savor what you eat and drink
Sitting against a tree trunk
Spending time caressing plants, grass, and flowers
Touch different textures
Don’t forget to exercise your animals; they may need extra grounding as well. Also, check your houseplants more frequently-they may need extra water as well.

Magic Monday Message
"When dreams become reality."
Have you clipped your own wings when it comes to what you believe is possible for your life? Do you allow your words and thoughts about what’s possible for you to be determined by what you “should” be doing out in the world? Maybe you delineate the truth of what’s possible by using “reality” as a measuring stick.
I have a beef with this thought process. Like my hero Louise Hay before me, I believe the word “should” keeps us stuck in limiting beliefs and attached to being wrong. Think about it, every time we use the word should we are making ourselves wrong. Saying “I should be doing/feeling/thinking/being…” immediately states to the universe that you’re not doing the right thing, thereby making yourself wrong. What if we could replace should with COULD?
Could opens up a world of possibilities, and gives us choices, when before we had none. For instance, instead of saying “I should be doing…” we could say “If I really wanted to, I could be ___________” Go ahead, try it now. Doesn’t that feel better? If you’re NOT currently doing what you could be doing in order to create the reality that you want, why aren’t you? What holds you back from doing it?
This leads me to my next question: Who is the author of your shoulds? Is it you? Or is the voice of a parent or teacher the voice you’re hearing in your head?
When you convert your shoulds to coulds be discerning. Sometimes the voice of should is not your own. You may actually be able to throw out a should entirely and come up with your own, more authentic could.
We often beat ourselves up for not doing something that we never wanted to do in the first place. People force themselves into careers and lifestyles that they don’t truly want to please others, and wind up feeling less than because they feel they should be more of something they're not. Is there anything on your should list that you could drop with a sigh of relief? I’d bet there is.
Once you let go of the unnecessary shoulds, you might begin to look at your life in an entirely new way, and you might find that removing the external pressure to be something you don’t want to be opens you up to a whole new way of thinking about your worth and your happiness. You’re no longer wrong for not measuring up to someone else’s standards for your life and you can reclaim your ownership of it.
This shift also obliterates the idea that what you’ve experienced in the past is what’s possible for you now, because the old operating system no longer applies.

If You Are Happy And You Know It........
I used to believe happiness was the place I would get to when I had my life all figured out and all my ducks in a row. One day a lightbulb went off and glowed brightly when it dawned on me that during those times when I allowed myself to release my incessant need to have situations and people show up in a certain way I simply was comfortable watching it all unfold as it did and lo and behold... I was happy. I didn’t even need to concern myself with questioning how why, how, or the extent of acceptance and peace of mind I was feeling. I don’t know about you but when I let go of my inner need to control how people and situations are going to act I feel such freedom!
My happiness comes from living each moment, loving exactly who I am in the present and not allowing another’s actions to alter or affect my desired state of being content. I assure you this is not always easy especially if you are an empath like me. It has really helped me to set the intention that happiness is going to be my choice.
Here are some key points that you might apply in your own life:
-Focus on the gratitude of what you have presently in your life. Forget about what you don’t have for the moment. You may even choose to write a gratitude list.
-Smile! Not only does smiling offer positivity to others: The movement of the muscles around your lips and mouth used to smile sends a direct message to your brain center and influences your inner feelings.
-Write on a sticky note or on paper your daily intention to experience positive awareness, attitudes, and messages for the day.
-The inspirational guru speaker Tony Robbins says it’s important to feel your feelings and to acknowledge your suffering but limit them to only 90 seconds a day then get on with your day, creating a positive focus.
-Forgive freely. Let go of resentments and grudges. We do forgiveness for ourselves, not for the other person. When we allow ourselves to be free-forgivers of other people, situations, and experiences, we free up energetic space within that can more easily be filled with self-loving appreciative feelings.
-Engage in creativity and other activities that make your heart sing. Think about what makes you feel really good, and do that!
Remember happiness is a choice and if you’re happy and you know it you’ll exude it not only to yourself but out to the world!

While the energy of the Capricorn convention, Pluto and Saturn, as well as the eclipse, will hang around for weeks and months, this week should feel considerably less tense, at least internally. You may find your thoughts to be quite a bit lighter as we move forward this month.
With that uplift comes some brilliant thought, both from you and the collective. We will start having ideas to solve some of the problems and crises we are in the midst of. Particularly when it comes to Australian wildlife, I feel human ingenuity will step up to start to find solutions to the lack of food and shelter and habitats. People from all walks and careers, university students, and PhDs will start creating pseudo-natural and tech solutions as the Aquarian energy is so gifted at doing.
That same ingenuity is available to you as an individual too. Try to take a deep breath, appreciate your body for whatever it is, it is your vehicle in this life. Lean into the wisdom of the hive mind and start to heal.

This week I have a poem to share with you. I am preparing to move to another state, so I’m getting together with friends before I go. On Sunday, I went to my last local SoulCollage® class. I made a card to honor the group which I, unfortunately, cannot share here, but I can share the poem I created to share with the group. Instead, I will share a card I made to honor the full moon.
Just in case you are new to SoulCollage®; it’s a fun, creative and introspective process that can be done in a group or alone. There are a couple of references in the poem that I will explain here. Indra’s Net refers to a metaphorical infinite net that serves as “a symbol for all created universes with no beginning and no end”. A Neter is the name used in SoulCollage® for the energy of each card created whether they be a friend or challenger to our soul.
Come As You Are
Where Creativity reigns supreme
Flash your scissors, glue, and images
Seek the images that find you
Cut, cut, cut
Glue to your heart’s content
Give your inner critic a snack to chew on
Create, Create, Create
Come As You Are
Laughing, Crying, Sad, Happy, Excited or Quiet
There is a space just for you
Step into Indra’s Net and discover your Neters one by one
Easy, challenging, neutral, no matter
Each is a part of the whole
Bless each one
Come As you Are
Into a net of safety and compassion
You are welcome here

Welcome to 2020!! I’m not going to get tired of saying it because it’s so new: 2020!
May we all begin to see things clearly. Discernment is an important concept for this year. Who and what supports you? What doesn’t? Can you change the things that don’t support you? If not, it’s time to move on.
We just came through a big lunation – a lunar eclipse in the sign of Cancer. This called forward the past. Past traumas, past relationships, past patterns. All for our benefit, so we can see them for what they are and move past them.
We also experienced a major transit between Saturn and Pluto. Saturn and Pluto are holding hands in the sign of Capricorn. Saturn is about structures, Pluto is about reaching in and excavating all that doesn’t work in our lives anymore. This means, the old structures are falling, and we are being renewed. The most positive thing to do is be open to the changes, to listen to our desires, and act on them. In the best words possible, this is a new time, a new reality. Are you ready to live in it?
Saturn and Pluto also call us to be more embodied. To care for our bodies in gentle ways. Because after an astrological transit like this, you may feel exhausted. It’s exhausting. So, baths, showers, slow walks, slow movement modalities like Feldenkrais, are so beneficial. And, sunlight. Get some sun in your eyes if you can!
The poem for the week is “I Have Arrived” by Thich Nhat Hahn
I Have Arrived
~ by Thich Nhat Hanh
I have arrived, I am home
in the here, in the now.
I am solid, I am free,
in the ultimate, I dwell.
Solid as a mountain,
free as the white clouds.
The door to no-birth,
no-death has opened,
free and unshakable I dwell.
If you feel drawn, let the poem enter your Being, releasing any old ideas of constriction or limitation and returning your true essence as expansive, radiant Light. Poetry heals, poetry clears, poetry opens us to who we really are, spiritual beings in human form. Read it out loud and enjoy!
As always, I’m available on 12Listen.com, Jenniferdove.com, and on 12Radio, as well, to support you on your journey. Much love and appreciation to you and thanks for reading!
