Welcome to the family. We are a wonderfully diverse group, all benefiting from being around runners of every level and with a wide variety of goals.
Whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or working toward running your first mile, you're all equally valuable to this club and to me.
I'm Debbie Voiles, a Tampa native, who's been running 42 years and coaching the last 10. I founded Run Tampa.
While most clubs have a board, this one does not. It's just me. I have a good idea of what my members want, and because it's just me, I can take action and keep track of everything. I do all the social media, manage the website, lead three of the group runs, publish the magazine and do all the coaching.
I utilize Facebook, Instagram, and Constant Contact to disseminate information.
In the next pages, I'll give you both an overview of Run Tampa opportunities and provide helpful links.

Our runs are deliberately unstructured. You can go virtually any distance. At any given time, we'll have people training for marathons, but we'll have more that are only going a few miles. Anything/everything is OKAY. You do what you want to do.
Group runs are on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday.
Saturday Runs Rotate Among Six Locations, but if we have a group race, the run that would have been that weekend is scheduled for the next weekend. This is oe reason to keep an eye on the website. : 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.
Locations are Clearwater Bridges (starting at Coachman Park), Upper Tampa Bay Trail (Ballyhoo Grill trailhead), Safety Harbor (meet in lot behind Starbucks on Main), Flatwoods (Bruce B Downs trailhead), Upper Tampa Bay Trail (Lutz Lake Fern trailhead), Davis Islands (Marjorie Park Marina)
Sunday Goody Goody Waterfront Run: 7 a.m.
Meet in courtyard at Hyde Park Village. Free parking in garage, corner Rome/Swann. Breakfast after at Goody Goody Burgers.
Wednesday Hyde Park Village to Harbour Island Loop: 6:30 winter, 7 p.m. the rest of the year

What to Expect
at Group Runs
The goal is to provide opportunities for runners of all levels. Please check this page.
● We gather in a circle for announcements and introductions.
● We take a group photo, later posted in Run Tampa Facebook Group.
● Then, everyone takes off, falling in with other runners going the same pace.
The time frame for group runs is two hours Saturday, and an hour for the other weekly runs. If doing more miles than you can complete in that time frame, feel free to continue, but know there may not be anyone left at the starting point when you return. People often start early, as well.

Many people say, "I can't drive from my house to (insert location); it's too far," but one day they decide to do it, and forever after, they never miss a group run at that location because it was such a great place to run.

12-week sessions per year
Tuesdays with Coach Deb Voiles, 6:00 pm, Al Lopez Park, 4810 Himes Ave (North Tampa), for intermediate and beginner runners
and also Tuesdays with Coach Karen Smith, 6:15 pm, Coleman Middle School, 1724 S. Manhattan Ave (South Tampa), for intermediate and advanced runners.
Description: Workouts last 75 to 90 minutes. Emphasis on running form, injury prevention and how to train. You'll do drills and intervals of different distances with different purposes.
Every workout includes a warm-up and strength work. You’ll need a watch for some workouts, and other times the workout will be entirely effort-based.
***This does not include coaching/schedules
1. Advanced for people already in good condition, running at least 25 miles per week, committed to working hard and being consistent and looking for a high intensity workout. (Coleman)
2. Intermediate, for runners training to improve their time or improve endurance or reduce injuries, but seeking a less intense workout, even if that's due to a work/family schedule that won't allow for the desired mileage. (Coleman or Al Lopez Park)
3. Beginner is for people just working up to their first 5k, running non-stop. (Al Lopez Park)

$112 for 12-week session for runners 60 and over

What does it mean to be a Run Tampa group race?
1. About a dozen races each year are designated Run Tampa events. Usually 30 to 70 members participate. Virtually all 470 club members participate in Gasparilla race weekend, our biggest event of the year.
2. Group photo, usually at the starting line, 20 minutes before start.
3. Be sure to wear your Run Tampa shirt.
4. Race selection is based on reputation, location, time of year, and other factors. These races represent variety in race distances and locations.
5. Some of these races tend to be traditional group races for us, but others change from year to year to provide variety.

Can I run with a stroller?
Absolutely. The only location that wouldn't work well for a stroller would be Lake Rogers Park, because it's all off road trails.
Can I bring my kids?
We love kids! As long as you stay with them, we'd love to have them.
Can I bring my dog?
We love dogs, and often members bring dogs on the run. They're very welcome. The only rule besides the obvious, that they're friendly, is that you keep them on a fixed leash at all times. Those extension leashes can 'clothesline' people. Dogs are also welcome at Hyde Park Village; so, you can bring your furry friend to breakfast at Goody Goody on Sunday morning.
Can I do a walk/run?
Sure! We have many people that are doing a walk/run because they're new to running, and we have plenty of people who've been using the walk/run method for years. It's all good.
Do I have to go the whole distance at a group run?
No. Actually, there is no set distance. At every location, it's possible to run many miles, but you can turn around whenever you want. We have people still working up to a 5k and people training for marathons.
How will I know when my membership is up for renewal?
You will receive a reminder about a week before expiration.
What if I want coaching, but I can't make it to Al Lopez Park or Coleman Middle School for group coaching?
Check out Deb's Mojo for Running Coaching Program. It's $55 per year and all online. Also, plenty of free coaching information in her podcasts, which are available on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, and any podcast app.
