2017 Miss Teen Contestant
Elk Grove High School Class of 2017 graduate Toree Oliver will soon have the opportunity to add yet another accomplishment to her list of achievements.
The fashion model and athlete was chosen to compete in the regional Miss Teen 2017 pageant that will be held in Oakland on July 23.
If she wins the competition, she will represent the community at the National Pageant in Orlando, Florida later this year.
I’ve never done a pageant before, but I have done a lot of modeling; modeling auditions for movies, etc. - I’ve actually just did an audition for the movie, “13 Reasons Why,” – but never a pageant,” Toree said. “I never thought I could be Miss Teen of Sacramento, so I was very surprised when I got this opportunity.”
Toree is a long-time, avid soccer player who received a scholarship to attend California Baptist University this fall where she will study biology with goals of becoming an obstetrician.
She explained how her mother inspired her to follow the career and much more.
“I went to all of my mom’s doctors’ appointments and I was just fascinated with what they do. I was able to be there in the room while each time she gave birth to my two brothers and that was very inspiring for me,” Toree said. “My dad died when I was 4; he was in a car accident, and it’s been me and my mom ever since. She’s my best friend and she always pushes me to do my best. As single mom with three kids she does the best that she can and I’m very inspired by that.”
It was Toree’s mother who originally contacted her modeling agent to see if there was a pageant suited for her.
She became emotional when she spoke about the number one saying that her mother recites to her to encourage her success.
“She’s got a lot of sayings before games, before finals, etc., and of course you can always only do your best,” Toree said. “But there’s this one saying she says and it’s, ‘You only have to do your best. If you’re not happy with yourself, did you really do your best? If you don’t think you did, I do; I believe in you and I’m proud of you.’ She said that right before a game for nationals and that gave me so much motivation.”
Toree plays volleyball and basketball in addition to soccer, and is constantly on the road to attend tournaments in other cities.
She participated in Sacramento Fashion Week in February and said that she’s well prepared for Sunday’s competition.
“I’m not really a shy person; I’m pretty outgoing, etc. Plus, I’ve performed in front of people via modeling. So I’m more excited for the pageant than anything else. This is a big step for me,” Toree said.

"What an honor it was to be a part of such an amazing experience . Like many of the contestants, this was my first pageant. I agreeded to be open to the experience and try to put my judgements aside . I am so glad I did this. What an amazing organization . What a wonderful gift I have been given ...to be able to connect with so many amazing young talent. They are inspiring and changed my life. To the incredible staff: To Lee, the MC, and Joe who helps make things work seemlessly backstage. Not to mention that Tiffany who is so helpful and kind and talented. Thank you to all the woman in the office that put something out there that is so positive. Tammy, thank you for all that you do and thank you for reaching out to me as a judge. Like the contestants, I am so glad I decided to leave my comfort zone and say "yes" to something new.
